Working at epraise

We're a small business with big ideas about how the world of education can be improved. Our work makes a real difference to the lives of teachers, students and parents and we cannot do this without having the best people creating and supporting our platform.

Perks of the job

Working for epraise is great! Benefits include great facilities with the latest hardware and software, home use of the Adobe Creative Suite, team lunches, 36.25 hour working week and 20 days holiday plus bank holidays. For the right candidate, we will consider reduced hours and/or term-time only working. We have a great office with a great team and plenty of training and development opportunities.

Intern Developer - Web Applications (PHP, MySQL)

Epraise is excited to be offering a developer internship commencing September 2019 at our innovative education sector company, following the success of this year's programme. We’re looking for an enthusiastic intern studying a computer science related degree, to join the team and help us build some exciting new features into the platform over the coming year.

Since our beginnings in 2009, epraise has continued to grow each year and we now have over 350,000 registered users worldwide. We aim to do three things; motivate students, engage parents and save teachers time, through the use of our online platform. We work with schools in a number of areas including achievement, behaviour, assessment, attendance, homework and communications. Our platform makes a real difference to children’s lives - we’re proud of what we’ve done so far and we’re looking forward to building an even better future.

Epraise is built around a platform of HTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL and you will need to have some experience in these, however you will have plenty of time to improve and refine your existing skills as part of this placement. As a small business, no two days will be the same and occasionally you'll be involved areas such as support, sales and marketing where your development skills will be invaluable to the team.

The most important thing to us is personality. We are looking for someone with a can-do approach who is both enthusiastic and ambitious. We want someone who is excited to try out new ideas and techniques to help us drive our platform forward. You’ll be a big part of our small business and your thoughts and suggestions really will count.

This placement is initially unpaid but will move to a paid placement once the intern has proved themselves capable of producing development work that is production ready. We expect this to be after the first term of the placement but may be sooner for a more experienced candidate.

We are a very friendly and happy team with a great office, good working hours (8:30-4:30) and plenty of development opportunities on offer.

"I joined Epraise in July 2018 as an intern developer for my university placement year. Initially, my knowledge and skills surrounding programming were limited, however with excellent support from the team I was gaining knowledge and confidence every single day. Within a couple months I became more independent and was much more confident with the work I was given. The placement has allowed me to gain lifelong skills and become more prepared for my final year."

We build our mobile applications using Swift (iOS) and Java (Android) rather than relying on cross-platform development tools, because this results in a higher quality product for our users. You will need to have some experience of mobile application development, however you will have plenty of time to improve and refine your existing skills as part of this placement. As a small business, no two days will be the same and occasionally you'll be involved areas such as support, sales and marketing where your development skills will be invaluable to the team.
